About Breast Augmentation Surgery
The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic by placing saline or cohesive silicone gel implants under the breast area. There are several choices for implant incision location, and you and the Doctor will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of all of them. After breast enlargement surgery, you may experience some discomfort which can be well controlled with medication. Swelling will last for 2 – 3 weeks, but it will take 6 – 8 weeks to fully appreciate the final result.
Recovery times vary according to the implant placement. When breast implants are placed under the muscle, recovery time to routine activities is 7 days with a return to active exercise in 4 – 6 weeks. Recovery time will be slightly shorter if your implants are placed above the muscle. We will ask you to refrain from repetitive or excessive upper arm motions for 4 – 6 weeks as this can increase swelling and discomfort. You will be able to shower immediately as waterproof dressings are used, and all the sutures are buried and will dissolve on their own.
Breast augmentation is real surgery. Before you decide, it’s important to learn about any possible complications, even though they are rare. These will be fully explained to you during your private consultation. At that time, you will have an opportunity for a careful and complete discussion of your options and what is involved. You will have an opportunity to try various breast implant sizers at our cosmetic surgery clinic which many patients find very helpful in deciding on implant size. You will benefit from asking all your questions and from browsing through our before and after photographs.
