Laser Hair Removal

We have 2 cutting edge systems that allow us to offer the best for laser hair removal and the ability to successfully treat all skin types.  We even have a hair removal laser that is safe for those with a suntan!  This laser, the CoolGlide, has a unique design with longer wavelengths, and innovative cooling to allow extremely effective, safe and long lasting results. The CoolGlide laser uses pulsed light energy and the Prowave uses infrared light (IPL system).

Hair removal is still the #1 requested aesthetic procedure. Many men and women struggle with unwanted hair on the body or face. Shaving, electrolysis, waxing, plucking or using chemical depilatories can be expensive, painful, time consuming, and messing without long-lasting results. This quick, comfortable treatment can permanently reduce hair growth in targeted areas, eliminating the inconvenience of other hair removal methods.

Advantages of these systems include:

  • Improved patient comfort
  • More effective reduction of hair growth
  • The ability to treat all skin types
  • Faster results and fewer side effects

Your Laser Hair Removal Procedure

Hair in the area to be treated is closely trimmed and the skin is covered with a cool and clear gel.  The technician passes the wand slowly over the treated area. Treating small areas like the face, underarms, bikini area or lower abdomen takes just a few minutes.  Larger areas like the arms, back or legs can take 30 to 60 minutes. There is minimal discomfort followed by a brief redness in the treated area. A soothing cream with sunscreen is usually applied prior to you resuming your normal activities.

An average of 6 – 10  treatments is necessary for optimal hair reduction.  This is because only the actively growing hairs are affected during each treatment session. Resting or dormant follicles will not be destroyed until the follicles begin producing mature hair. Treatment intervals are usually spaced 3 – 4 weeks apart to improve the efficiency of achieving lasting hair growth reduction. Clients must avoid sun tanning the treated areas between treatments but normal hair reduction practices such as shaving and waxing do not need to be discontinued. After a series of treatments, most patients experience a significant reduction in the amount of hair that grows in the area, and the remaining hair is finer and lighter. Follow up or “maintenance” treatments may be recommended to achieve superior results and are very affordable.

The Cutera CoolGlide Difference

The most outstanding hair removal system on the market for all skin types, from light to dark, including tanned patients.

What does it feel like?

As the name implies, CoolGlide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anaesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.

How many treatments?

Most areas require 6 – 8 treatments. However, the number of CoolGlide treatments required for optimal long term benefits depends on multiple factors – hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and rest. CoolGlide treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your CoolGlide treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen.   Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair.   Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing.    Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

What are the possible side effects?

Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin — similar to a sun burn. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur.
